Edmunds.com began in 1966 as a publisher of booklets designed to assist car buyers desiring to compare brands and models. Like most companies in the publishing business, most of Edmunds work has shifted online, with their comprehensive website reviewing new and used cars, offering shopping tools for comparing models, and pricing information.

One piece of research that Edmunds offers is the Best Retained Value Award, which goes to vehicles which the companies estimates will have the best resale value five years after purchase. For 2014, three of the winners announced were the Jeep Wrangler, Dodge Challenger, and the Ram 1500 ProMaster.

2014 Jeep Wrangler
In the compact SUV category, the Jeep Wrangler was the clear winner. As the first off-road vehicle manufactured for consumers, Jeeps have mastered the category in technology and reliability over the nearly eight decades they have been on the market. The 2014 Jeep Wrangler value comes from the reliability of its four wheel drive, six-speed manual transmission, easy to remove standard soft-top, and a very respectable EPA estimated 21 mpg highway. Unlike some off-road vehicles, the Jeep Wrangler not only holds its own off the beaten path, but provides a comfortable and quiet ride on city streets and for long distance treks on highways.

2014 Dodge Challenger
When Edmunds got around to looking at mid-size and full size coupes; the Dodge Challenger took the top title. The rear wheel drive, five passenger coupe is powered by a 3.6 L V6 engine controlled by a six speed automatic transmission. Engine upgrades are available including a 5.7 V8, as well as a Hemi V8. Add a manual transmission if you wish for true driver control. Available in four trim levels, the Challenger offers the best of both worlds: a comfortable coupe for toting passengers, and homage to the muscle cars of yesterday. The wide and flat front seats are comfortable for long distance driving, and the dash is bedecked with model specific knobs and trims and a touchscreen controller for technology, comfort and entertainment. The 2014 Dodge Challenger value will remain high for resale in the coming years.

2014 RAM ProMaster Commercial Van

Ram trucks are often lauded as the "Truck of the Year" by various authorities in the field, so it's no wonder the 2014 Ram ProMaster was chosen for this award. Available in four different trim configurations, with a choice of access doors, windows, or as a chassis only for your own specialty use, the Ram ProMaster base can seat two, is powered by a V6 with a six speed automatic transmission. New "European Style" roofs have increased the cargo capacity in the ProMaster, and will allow you to tote larger materials while staying economical to operate. An optional 3.0 Turbo Diesel provides your front wheel drive van with additional power options. A host of interior and exterior options and configurations to choose from will add to the value of your ProMaster today and for years into the future.
