America's Next Cop Car: 2015 Dodge Charger Pursuit

The 2015 Dodge Charger Pursuit is the most recent iteration of Dodge's four-door muscle car designed for police use. As mentioned by Automobile Magazine, the 2015 Dodge Charger Pursuit will continue to be offered with both V-6 and V-8 engines, as well as the option of rear- or all-wheel-drive, with the five-speed automatic transmission being a standard feature.

The new Dodge Charger Pursuit V-6 is offered exclusively with rear-wheel-drive. The Pentastar V-6 is unchanged from the last model, still working with 292 horsepower and 260lb.-ft. of torque. Fuel economy, however, takes a 1-mpg dip compared to the 2014 model. A Dodge spokesperson said that the reason for the decrease was likely a reflection of the high take rate of the 3.07 rear axle ratio, meaning the EPA adjusted its test data accordingly; otherwise the 2015 model's underpinnings are virtually unchanged from last year's cop car. The 2015 Dodge Charger Pursuit V-6 returns with up to 26 mpg on the highway compared with last year's 27 mpg, while the citizen's 2015 Dodge Charger V-6 manages to push to 31 mpg on the highway thanks to its new eight-speed automatic transmission.

The 2015 Dodge Charger Pursuit offers an array of improvements over the previous models, thanks to feedback given by law enforcement officers. Improved fuel economy, all-new electric power steering, and additional front suspension bushing durability on rear-wheel-drive models help enhance the driving experience. For example, the new model offers a larger front (at 14.5 in) and a 13.8-in. rear pursuit-rated brake package as a standard feature, allowing for an increase of performance. New LED turn signals, projector-beam headlamps, and DRLs provide officers with better visibility. Police officers will also have the ability to customize their cars to their precise specifications for 2015.

Inside the cop cruiser's cockpit, the new Charger Pursuit has a new 7-inch gauge cluster as well as a 5.0-inch U-connect touchscreen infotainment system. Now standard on the Dodge Charger Pursuit is Hands-free phone usage. Specially-designed front seats have unique bolstering and are designed to accommodate the belt-mounted gear officers carry. Stealth mode and sentry key engine immobilizer are among other unique features, decreasing visibility to other drivers and preventing theft, respectively.

There are two engine choices available on this 2015 police car. A 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine delivers 292 horsepower and up to 26 mpg on the highway. Meanwhile, a 5.7-liter SEMI V-8 bumps it up to 370 horsepower, and it can also deliver up to 26 mpg when operating in its four-cylinder Fuel Saver mode. Chrysler says that the car can reach 60 mph in less than 6 seconds.
